From Humble Beginnings

Our History

D & G Excavating, Inc. was established in 1979 by Dave and Sharon Gruhot. For nearly two decades, Dave had worked for local contractors including Deutz & Crow Sand & Gravel, and Dwire Inc. before starting D & G Excavating. D & G had very humble beginnings, starting with just 2 employees, an International dump truck, a Poclain excavator, and a Caterpillar 950 loader, which the company still owns and operates today. The business was truly a family operation, headquartered out of the basement of Dave and Sharon’s residence until they built their current office building next to their main shop in 1994.

Next Generation Takes Over

On February 12, 2007, Brian and Kristin Gruhot purchased D & G Excavating, Inc. from Dave and Sharon Gruhot, allowing Dave to pursue his lifelong dream of fishing and golfing, neither of which he was very good at. Brian has been with the company since it started in 1979, digging his first basement at age 14, and Kristin has been with the company since 1992. They are the second-generation owners of the company and have grown D & G to where it is now. Now, Brian and Kristin’s son David is next in the line of succession to be the third generation owner and looks forward to meeting the challenges of a rapidly changing industry.
